Jackie Greene - Why we love this troubadour -Tour Dates

Jackie Greene has for the past three years easily been one of my most favorite of shows to see. He is captivating a personality as a "Facebook" comrade as he is a musician.
His dedication and tour commitment is unrivaled anything amongst his peers, so he had made his peers those that tour everyday of the year, the Phil Lesh's, The Bob Weir's, the Warren Haynes...Right there. Warren Haynes is a good example of what Jackie Greene reminds me of. He has his solo music, which is by far his most engaging stuff,He has his band, Skinny Singers", which is Jackie Greene and Tim Bluhm (The Mother Hips), and he plays with and tours with almost a who's who of the best in Americana, Jam and Rock, such as B.B. King, Phil Lesh, Huey Lewis, Susan Tedeschi, Taj Mahal, and Buddy Guy, and he has played most major U.S. festivals, including All Good, Gathering of the Vibes, Mountain Jam, Newport Jazz, Newport Folk, South by Southwest, Wakarusa, Winnipeg Folk, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, and Rothbury. Now finished up with his fifth album as his 2nd large release to come out, his music just get's stronger.  American Myth is so solid that I find it hard no to listen to at least once a week. Beautiful love songs like Marigold and Love Song tell of his capacity to write a ballad, "Supersede" is by far the epic on this album, showing his capacity for story telling, with a hint of yes Bob Dylan's ability for song writing, "The mayor is kissing babies, he’s almost way too kind
we’re filled to the brim with honest men, they’re just way too hard to find
so stare into his Public Eyes and watch his clock unwind
then find him old and drowning in the deep end"
Clocking in at almost 10 minutes one wouldn't assume that on the same album he could ring it in with power tunes about fame like "Hollywood" and "I'm So Gone"....one of his best songs on the album...and his live shows are just charged.
His last release was his first major release "Giving Up The Ghost"  and to date his most mainstream and popular album. With "Shaken", all over the radio, and incredible hits like "Ball and Chain", and my personal favorite "Animal", he has nothing left to prove.  His shows on the other hand are so intimate that you feel like your seeing your local band at your favorite Pub. His exchanges with the audience, and his availability is unrivaled amongst his peer group. He even has a email address where you can request songs, as long as you don't request "Freebird"...
Where I have gained most of my respect for Jackie Greene is how humble he is. Last Fall, on Sat Sept 27, he played with Warren Haynes' Jam outfit Govt Mule, at 10:30 Jackie posts on Facebook, "Jackie Greene is amazed at warren's guitar playing", a few moments later he writes, "No seriously he is fucking amazing you should get down here right now you don't know what your missing."
Jackie Greene carries this humility with him wherever he goes.
Right now he has just released The Grateful EP.   The Grateful EP features his takes on the Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter originals “Sugaree,” “New Speedway Boogie” and “Brokedown Palace.” The Grateful EP is available for free on Greene’s homepage.  He has wrapped up recording his 5th studio album in San Francisco, California, with producer Tim Bluhm (The Mother Hips).
He played The Great American Music Hall on Dec 30, 31st, for a Great New Year's Eve in San Francisco. Since then he has been touring no less.  This past week you could have caught him in Jamaica with The Radiators, and Bob Weir's Rat Dog and I'm sure on the Beach as well.
The man never stops collaborating, and touring and playing great music.
If you are going to one of his shows you can try and request he play a song by sending your suggestion and show date/venue to greeneset@gmail.com. You're request played or not I'm sure you'll be blown away...
